The Earth rests in our hands.
Please. In Australia, the Australian political parties are too obsessed with obtaining and keeping power instead of doing something that really needs to be done for its people. We are the biggest emitters per capita in the world and we are falling far behind in the move to renewable energy. Take Europe for example. Switzerland is 60% hydropower alone, Germany is progressing at an amazing rate and Iceland heats almost all its buildings with geothermal.
One of the most infuriating moments of my life is when my chemistry teacher, in reference to the environmental part of our chemistry course said “yeah, but that stuff is really boring so we’ll just skim over it.” The Australian education system fails in a variety of ways. This is a major one. Educate your teachers so that they can educate their students.Young people have no clue what’s going on. I can state the most obvious of facts to those around me and they’ll say “really?”, when what I really want is for them to at least nod their head and say “oh yeah, that issue is really getting out of hand.”
I am begging everyone to wake up and pay attention. Everyone that I meet and that I try to inform about the environment may laugh at me and shrug it off now, but it’s for your future too, not just mine. The environmental issues ARE our problem, don’t just assume that we can leave it to the next generation to deal with.
